I've chosen to do these upside down because I feel that in Burton's mind his world is probably upside down with lots of weird stuff going on!! :)

Phenom

So I've started to design some posters for the D&AD Film night.,,I will also be creating other promotional items but just for now I need to focus on the poster which will advertise the night!

This is the first design I've comeup with. the image in the back is an image of Tim Burton which someone has drawn. I love how it just peeks through the image of the tree. I've chosen a tree becasue in most of his films there seems to be an eerie looking tree! I do like this layout but i feel that it needs a bit more hand drawn things in it. I thought maybe I need to draw things...not my best skill!

This was the next stage...I drew the image using Stick and ink and also created the name using this technique! the name isn't that clear on this one. needs a bit more work...however I have done some more designs

MoMA Exhibition - Tim Burton

Ok this must be the best entrance to an exhibition EVER! It's amazing!!!

I really wish I would have had the chance to see this myself first hand but it was in America....a long way away! :(

Summer project...

Over summer, we have been given a brief in which I have to invent a name and develop some branding ideas for a D&AD 'arthouse' film night. I've chosen four films, all from the director Tim Burton; "A Nightmare Before Christmas", "Corpse Bride", "Edward Scissorhands" and either "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" or "Alice in wonderland".
I have been doing research into Tim Burton the director/producer of many films which I enjoy watching. I've always appreciated the storylines and bizarre characters that he creates, his films have always received mixed reviews but my thought have always been positive.Tim Burton is possibly the greatest visionary director today. His dark visuals makes it wonderful to watch. He has the brain of a genius, the imagination of a child, and a dark fantasy in all of his ideas. I love the movie The Nightmare Before Christmas. It is made one-of-a-kind, and has a special plot.
After looking into the criticism that Burton has received it's clear to see that the criticism is mixed. I have decided to concentrate mainly on the positive because I don't agree with any of the negative criticism. there are many words to describe him such as bizarre, quirky, a genius and many more but one description that appeared a few times was phenomenal- extraordinary; outstanding. I think this would be the one word that I would use to describe Burton and his work. And for that reason I've chosen the name Phenom - a remarkable or outstanding person.

Here are my very first design to promote the film night; it's just the starting point a a lot more needs to be done as I haven't designed them very well. I am however going for a hand drawn feel because of his amazing skill of drawing. this is however more of a stencil feel.

Summer….

OK so summer holidays are nearly over…BOO :( But while I have been away from uni I have still been designing…of some sorts!
I decided because the Uni hadn’t sent the summer brief yet and to keep myself in the right state of mind I would enter a competition…this competition was design new labels for the red and white wines which the company Sovio was going to be bringing out.
1st it was interesting because the designs that had been sent in clearly weren’t good enough, then I entered my first design! Compared to the other entries mine stood out….my first design :

Not the best design I must say but it did stand out.
I left it for a few days only to return to the competition to find that the standards had been up…a lot! so I created a new one!!! :

Now these babies got a lot of attention! I LOVE THEM! The vast improvment from the earlier designs is amazing!! I do love the colours and the whole design. I then decided to enter one more …:

These haven’t got the same reaction but are still liked!!! just have to wait and see thought because the amount of skill some people have is amazing and some of the other designs are really good!!
And last but not least my final design which I sent in! :

Not heard anything back yet but they did say there's a lot of entries and it's going to take time to go through them!! :-) Wish me luck!
